Based at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, a program of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration is comprised of a diverse team of clinicians, basic scientists, and clinical researchers.
The Center for Craniofacial Regeneration was established to develop tissue engineering-based treatments for wounds and defects of the face and skull that restore function as well as appearance. The tissues of the face and skull are many and complex. Accordingly, the Center’s team represents many disciplines, and is rooted in the many achievements by University of Pittsburgh researchers in tissue regeneration and biomaterial development. .
The Center for Craniofacial Regeneration is dedicated to the development of technologies and clinical therapies for craniofacial repair and regeneration. Our Center of excellence is a global leader in this rapidly developing field. Our strength lies in the synergistic approach to translational research by clinicians, engineers and basic scientists. To meet these challenges, the Center for Craniofacial Regeneration strives to foster multidisciplinary approaches to regenerate mineralized and soft tissues of craniofacial structures, employing tissue engineered strategies such as cellular therapies, biomaterials, and mechanobiology. Our innovation has resulted in new and unique technologies developed by Center members.
The CCR environment is rich in resources, and boasts a talented and diverse team of scientists and clinicians. Our vibrant intellectual environment is committed to the academic excellence and career development of faculty, clinicians, post-docs, fellows, undergraduate and graduate students, and visiting scholars. The expertise of our cell and molecular biologists, polymer chemists, material scientists, bioengineers and clinicians allows the innovative employment of therapeutic systems from the molecular to the tissue level. The Center encourages the transfer of developed technologies and treatments to enable new biotechnology ventures providing jobs and a regional economic development.
